A shaker drop leaf table that I built from some plans in Fine Wood Working magazine. It is made from pine, red oak and mahogany. The oak is used to brace the bottoms of the leaves so that they do not cup extensively. The leaves are supported by oak arms that swing out under the leaves - via pull notches. The legs are attached via tenons and you can see the cross bracing.
The hard part of this project was cutting the coving for where the leaves interface with the table top - the thing that is not obvious is that the inner and outer curves are of different radius - otherwise they do not slide smoothley over each other. Since I had very few tools when I built this, I ended up cutting this with chisels, a rabbet plane and a jack plane - not the recommended practice even in Colonial times!
